In April 2007, the Graduate School of Information Systems (IS) is renewed.

isThe University of Electro-Communications' Graduate School of Information Systems (IS) was established on April 1, 1992, for the purpose of conducting education and research in various fields related to information systems.

In April 2007, 15th anniversary of the IS's establishment, the IS graduate school is renewed to four departments [the Department of Human Media Systems, the Department of Social Intelligence and Informatics, the Department of Information Network Systems, and the Department of Information Systems Fundamentals.] for adapting various latest social programs.

Department of Human Media Systems

This department is devoted to the theme of "people and information systems." Research will focus on various issues connected with the relationship between people, as individuals, and information systems.

Department of Social Intelligence and Informatics

This department will concern itself with "society and information systems." Research will focus on concepts of a creative society, and theory and practice for realizing such a society using information systems as infrastructure.

Department of Information Network Systems

This department will tackle "information networks." Its aim it establish key technologies for the support various kinds of communication in information systems.

Department of Information System Fundamentals.

This department will deal with "information systems infrastructure." It will explore information systems—in both their hardware and software aspects—to serve as infrastructure for the development of education and research in the other three departments.

The new course structure aims at the wide and deep exploration of education and research relating to information systems science. One of its key features is a stronger emphasis on the relationship of information systems to "people," and to "society."

is-4.gifIn order to press ahead with education and research that can respond to the changes and demands this new era, we decided to reorganize our existing courses, and offer educational and research infrastructure at the leading edge of information systems science.
